About SEED Lab

The Soil Ecology and Environmental Dynamics (SEED) Lab investigates how soil biogeochemical processes respond to global environmental change. Our research integrates field experiments, laboratory analyses, and quantitative approaches to understand soil carbon cycling, ecosystem functioning, and climate–soil feedbacks across terrestrial ecosystems. Our goal is to identify nature-based solutions to carbon sequestration, climate mitigation, and food security.

Research Experience

Prior to joining the University of Hong Kong, Guopeng conducted postdoc research at Yale University with Dr. Michelle Wong and at the University of Minnesota with Dr. Peter Reich. For his doctoral research, he worked with Drs. Bonnie Waring and John Stark at Utah State University.

He has published papers as a first or corresponding author in high-impact journals, including Nature Geoscience, Nature Reviews Biodiversity, Nature Communications (2X), Global Change Biology, Global Ecology and Biogeography, and Global Food Security.

Guopeng serves as an associate editor or editorial board member for nine journals (e.g., Ecological Monographs, Global Change Biology, Global Ecology and Biogeography, New Phytologist, Communications Earth and Environment, Carbon Balance and Management, Plant and Soil, Soil Use and Management, and Applied Soil Ecology).
